IDENTIFY AND TREAT THOSE AT RISK

CLINICIAN INFORMATION

Studies show that traditional lipid profiles from individuals with coronary artery disease do not differ significantly from the rest of the population. Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the lipid most often associated with cardiovascular disease, is heterogeneous and consisting of up to seven subfractions. Large buoyant LDL subfractions are less atherogenic, while small dense LDL subfractions are associated with a three-fold increase in risk for cardiovascular disease. Small dense LDL has also been associated with diseases such as Type I & Type II Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Resistance, Hypertension, Stroke, Renal Disease, Obesity and others. Triglyceride enriched lipoproteins such as Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) remnants and Intermediate Density Lipoproteins (IDL) are associated with Type III dyslipidemia and combined hperlipoproteinemia.

You can now rely on Lipoprint to screen, make treatment decisions and monitor patients at increased risk for cardiovascular disease. The Lipoprint® LDL & HDL Subfraction Testing System is an in vitro diagnostic test that measures cholesterol in all lipoprotein fractions and subfractions including VLDL, VLDL remnants, IDL, Large buoyant LDL (LDL-1 & LDL-2) and small highly atherogenic LDL-3 through LDL-7. Treatment options, whether drug therapy or lifestyle intervention, may vary depending on a patient’s Lipoprint profile.
